In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

To the left is a collage I have created using different elements of my own products. To the right is a collage I made using features from real magazines. I have done this so I can compare parts of my magazine with parts of real ones which I feel are a similar type of publication.

At the top of my collage is the masthead from the front cover of my music magazine. This lets the reader know what the magazine is called and this also lets the reader become familar with this magazine and means they can recognise/associate what magazine it is. The font i used was a font i believe suited my target auidence and also made it memorable and readable. It also resembles graffitti which is associated with teenagers and this shows/hints that it is aimed at them. It is quite similar to the 'Kerrang' masthead in the fact that it has bits missing and this again is informal and this again realates to graffitti style associated with teenagers. There is a great similarity about where the pictures on the front is placed on both magazines. My band are at different levels, and i hae the middle person over lapping the masthead, similary 'Kerrang' has the lead singer overlapping the masthead, this is a 'cocky' thing to do because this covers up the title so its quite difficult to read, but then because its so iconic and recognisable you dont need to see the title.
The next picture down is the sub titles 'Contents', 'World Exclusive' and 'Features' these are again in the same font as the title this is to show the theme throughout. also the yellow and black i have in the background, this represents a 'Warning' sign that again is stereotypically linked with students and this shows that the target auidence is rebellious and this is the theme all the way through the magazine. Most magazines have a theme and the one i have in my collage is from Q magazine and this is a red theme that they have all the way thourgh which shows a a simple theme, also this again suits the theme.
Then the next picture i have i a competition strip, this is only on special editions of the magazines where they get the auidence involoved, this is something i liked and involved on my magazine that i got from 'Kerrang' and i believed it was a good idea.
Next i have a picture from the contents page which shows the layout for the main story and this again sticks to the colour scheme and theme of the magazine, and this keeps it nice and neat. Similiary the contents layout for the main story, this suits the target audience and theme of simplicity but different.
Then i picked the the pull quote i have picked from my doublepage spread, this once again is with th colour scheme and stands out from the page this helps shows the emphasis on this. This is once again used to great effect in the 'Kerrang' magazine that feature 'My Chemical Romance' and they again used the colours to suit the theme of the band and this is used effectively and well.
Finally I chose the my doublepage spread picture, this is a picture of the band what the featured article is about and this is a picture i took of the band at different levels all objectively looking at the camera, and i made it black and white so it suited the bands nature and colour scheme again. Once again the 'Kerrang' featured article similary had a black and white picture of the band at different height/levels, bit the main difference would be the fact that there are subjectively not looking at the camera but this creates the effect that they are shy and this once again suits the theme perfectly.i believe that my photo is more effective and suits the theme more, in addition you can see the faces of the band so that the readers get used to them and help create familaristion for the up coming band.
